US President Joe Biden's son Hunter hit with criminal firearms charges

According to a US court document, the prosecution accuses Hunter Biden of making false claims in order to purchase a firearm in 2018.

Prosecutors claimed in the indictment released on Thursday that Hunter lied about using drugs in order to purchase a gun in 2018.

The indictment follows a bargain for Hunter to plead guilty to two misdemeanor tax charges, which was brought by US Special Counsel David Weiss in federal court in Delaware.

The accusations against Hunter are the result of an independent investigation, according to a White House official who on Thursday directed inquiries to the US Department of Justice.

The lawsuit will undoubtedly play a significant role in the 2024 US presidential campaign when Biden runs for re-election against his anticipated opponent

Additionally, it happens just a few days after Republicans declared they would launch an impeachment investigation into the Democratic president, largely because of his son's business connections.
